WL-EG15 combines a 25 cm shaft, low 3.5 cm heel and slim Vibram 705 sole for a reduced profile under trousers. The upper is 2.0–2.2 mm de-waxed French HAAS calfskin, with Goodyear welt construction and regular or custom length sizing from EU 35 through EU 47.

Calfskin from a house tanning in Alsace since 1842, whose SUPORTLO® has been its signature since the 1920s: combination-tanned for durability and flex, full-aniline dyed so nothing covers the pores, fish-oil fatliquored for weight in the hand. Finished at 2.0–2.2 mm where calfskin usually runs 1.0–1.4 mm — and on a boot cut this close to the ankle, that thickness is what stops the shaft going soft at the fold. The surface wax is removed at the final step. Origin: Alsace, France.

Goodyear Welt Construction

The welt is attached to a rib on the insole, and the outsole is then stitched to the welt. This construction allows a qualified cobbler to replace a worn outsole without dismantling the calfskin upper, provided the upper and welt remain in serviceable condition.

Leather & Details

Shorter Does Not Mean Lighter

The obvious way to make an engineer boot easier to wear is to reduce everything — shaft height, heel height, leather weight, and sole bulk. This design reduces the shaft, heel, and sole edge, but keeps the 2.0–2.2 mm calfskin used on our taller engineer boots. A thinner hide can soften and lose definition more quickly at the ankle fold, while this substantial leather helps the shorter silhouette remain crisp through wear.

25 cm Shaft, 3.5 cm Heel

The shortest shaft and lowest heel in the range create a more level stance and allow a straight trouser or denim hem to fall naturally over the boot. It is a different proportion rather than a reduced version of the taller engineer styles.

De-Waxed, Full Aniline

The surface wax has been removed, and there is no opaque pigment layer covering the hide. Natural pores, fine grain, and subtle tonal variation remain visible, giving the smaller boot a clear and refined surface.

A Sole Edge in Proportion

The VIBRAM® TYGUM 705 uses separate rubber sections at the forepart and heel, leaving the leather waist exposed between them. This construction keeps the welt and sole edge visually narrow beneath the 25 cm shaft.

De-waxed refers to the surface finish, not to the leather’s internal oils. The calfskin is still fatliquored and will gradually darken and burnish at flex and contact points. Some bloom may appear after extended storage, although generally less than on the standard waxed finish. The VIBRAM® forepart label may be yellow or black and is allocated at random. These boots are designed for heritage engineer styling and everyday wear, not as certified protective footwear.

Please try your boots indoors on a clean surface before outdoor wear. Smooth de-waxed calfskin shows scuffs more readily than a waxed or napped finish. Keep the original labels, box, and packaging until you are sure the fit works for you. Most pairs are custom-made, and sizing, color, or production details may be confirmed by email after purchase.

The Story

Most People Do Not Need a 29 cm Shaft

The tall engineer boot exists for a reason — it was built to keep heat off a shin and stay put at speed, and every centimetre of it earned its place. Almost nobody buying one now is doing either of those things. What they usually want is the shape: the round toe, the buckle, the welt, the weight of a real hide. This pair gives all of that at 25 cm and 3.5 cm, which is roughly where the style sat before it grew. The hide is unchanged at 2.0–2.2 mm and the sole is a slim Vibram rather than a lug block, because scaling the boot down only works if you refuse to scale down the parts that make it last.

A horsehair brush for dust, then a dry cloth. Aniline calf has no pigment layer to hide behind, so gentle and frequent beats hard and occasional.

Polish Only if You Want Shine

A de-waxed surface takes cream polish quickly. On a boot this size a little gloss goes a long way — start with far less than you think you need.

Condition Rarely

The hide is still fish-oil fatliquored. Add a leather-safe conditioner only when it genuinely feels dry — over-conditioning aniline calf darkens it unevenly and permanently.

Not Waterproof

Removing the surface wax also removes some water resistance. Avoid soaking; if the boots get wet, dry them naturally at room temperature away from direct heat.

WL-EG15 is the shortest engineer profile in this group. Its 25 cm shaft is 3–4 cm lower than the tall models, and the 3.5 cm heel with Vibram 705 forepart-and-heel rubber keeps the outline slimmer under trousers.
How is this different from your tall engineer boots?
Proportion and sole. This pair has a 25 cm shaft on a 3.5 cm heel; our tall engineer boots run 28–29 cm on heels up to 5 cm. The sole here is a Vibram TYGUM 705 — rubber at forepart and heel — rather than a full lug block, which keeps the edge slim. The hide, the tannage, the welt and everything underfoot are the same.
How should I choose my size?

Will these fit under trousers?
That is what the 25 cm shaft is for. On most builds a straight trouser leg falls cleanly over it without bunching at the calf, which a 29 cm shaft will not do. Very slim-cut trousers are still a question of your own leg and hem width.
What does de-waxed mean?
The surface wax is removed at the final finishing step. Colour reads clearer, grain stays more legible, and the white bloom that a waxed finish brings up in storage is far less pronounced. It is a finish decision, not a change to the hide — the leather is still fish-oil fatliquored inside.
Will these boots still develop the white bloom?
Much less than a waxed finish, but we would not promise never. After a long spell in a box some haze can still surface; a wipe with a soft cloth clears it.
Why keep the leather at 2.0–2.2 mm on a smaller boot?
Because thin leather is what makes a short boot look tired. Calfskin normally runs 1.0–1.4 mm and at that weight a shaft goes soft at the ankle fold within a season. Keeping the full thickness is what lets a slim boot stay crisp — and it also keeps loose grain at bay for years rather than months.
What colors are available?
Black, dark brown and light brown. Black is the most versatile; light brown shows the de-waxed clarity and the grain most clearly; dark brown sits between them.
Can these boots be resoled?
Yes. Goodyear welt construction lets the outsole be removed and replaced without disturbing the upper — the sole is the part that wears out, and it is the part designed to be replaced.
Are these certified protective motorcycle or safety boots?
No. These boots are designed for heritage engineer styling and everyday wear. They carry no protective certification, have no steel toe, and are not certified motorcycle, tactical, or safety footwear.
