Waxed HAAS Calfskin · 29 cm
WL-EG12 uses 2.0–2.2 mm HAAS SUPORTLO PRO full-aniline calfskin with its waxed surface retained. A 29 cm shaft, 5 cm heel, Goodyear welt and Vibram Mini Lug 430 sole give the leather a tall, substantial platform for developing bloom, creasing and burnish with wear.
Tanneries HAAS has worked in Alsace since 1842 and supplies calfskin to luxury goods manufacturers. SUPORTLO® has been their signature calfskin since the 1920s.
Calfskin usually runs 1.0–1.4 mm. At this weight the boot distorts less in wear, lasts considerably longer, and is far less prone to loose grain.
Dyed without a pigment layer, so the natural pores and grain of the hide stay visible. Fish-oil fatliquoring gives it a full, elastic hand.
Stitched, not glued — the outsole can be replaced without disturbing the upper.

Why This Boot Works
The most craft-forward boot in our engineer range: French calfskin at unusual thickness, a custom tea-core dye, and a construction built to be repaired rather than replaced.
Roughly double the usual 1.0–1.4 mm. Thickness is what keeps a 29 cm shaft standing and what pushes loose grain out to years rather than months.
Vegetable tannage for durability and chrome for flexibility, in one hide. Fish-oil fatliquoring then gives it the full, elastic hand that a purely veg-tanned calfskin would not have.
Aniline dye colours the hide without covering it, so every natural pore and grain line stays visible. It also means the leather ages visibly rather than staying flat.
Standard HAAS Suportlo is through-dyed. Ours is dyed to a lighter core, so the flex points and edges gradually reveal a warmer tone underneath instead of just scuffing.
Our PRO specification carries more oil and wax than standard Suportlo — easier to maintain and noticeably more water-resistant, at the cost of a slightly less formal finish.
The whole reason for putting an upper this expensive on a stitched welt: when the sole finally goes, it comes off and a new one goes on, and the calfskin carries on.

Tanneries HAAS has been tanning calfskin in Alsace since 1842. SUPORTLO® combines vegetable and chrome tannage with a full-aniline surface that keeps the natural pores and grain visible. For this boot, the leather is specified at 2.0–2.2 mm with a higher oil-and-wax content and a lighter core beneath the surface colour. The substantial weight supports the 29 cm shaft, while tonal variation, surface bloom, and gradual lightening at flex and contact points are intended characteristics. Origin: Alsace, France.
The VIBRAM® MINI LUG 430 uses a compact lug layout that provides functional tread without giving the boot the visual weight of a full commando sole. Its restrained profile works naturally with the finer calfskin upper. Origin: Italy.
Conceria 3S SELI supplies the vegetable-tanned cowhide used for the insole. Through wear, the leather gradually takes the impression of the foot. A 2 mm vegetable-tanned leather half footbed adds support beneath the heel and arch. Origin: Tuscany, Italy.
A 2 mm layer of natural wood-chip filling occupies the cavity between the insole and outsole. The material compresses gradually under areas of greater pressure, allowing the internal bed to adapt through wear.
Full-grain calfskin lines the foot and lower shaft, while the upper portion remains unlined. This construction provides a smoother interior around the foot without adding unnecessary thickness and rigidity around the calf.
RHENOFLEX® 3155/3175 reinforcement components support the rounded toe box and heel counter. These concealed structural pieces help the boot retain its intended shape as the calfskin flexes and settles through wear. Origin: Germany.
COATS® Brio™ thread is used for stitching through the substantial calfskin upper. Its consistent construction and resistance to abrasion make it suitable for leather footwear that repeatedly flexes through wear.
The upper and welt are attached to the insole structure, then the outsole is stitched to the welt. This construction allows a qualified cobbler to replace the worn outsole without dismantling the upper, provided the welt and upper remain in serviceable condition.
Leather & Details
Less distortion in wear, so the boot keeps its shape. A service life well beyond calfskin under 1.5 mm. And far less tendency toward loose grain — the wrinkling and separation of the grain layer that thin calf develops with age.

Standard Suportlo is dyed through. Ours is dyed to a lighter core, so the boot ages by revealing a warmer tone at the flex points and edges rather than simply abrading. That is the intended behaviour, not wear damage.
Fit & Sizing
Boot 35 = sneaker 36, boot 36 = sneaker 37, and the same one-size offset holds all the way to boot 44 = sneaker 45. Order one size below your usual sneaker size.
At 2.0–2.2 mm the shaft is firm out of the box and the instep has to clear on the way in. Calfskin this heavy softens gradually rather than all at once — expect the boot to feel different at week four than at day one.

A pale, cloudy surface bloom may appear after storage. It is a normal characteristic of this leather and can usually be reduced by gently wiping with a clean, soft cloth.
Care & FAQ
Oils and waxes migrating out of a well-fed hide as temperature and humidity change. Wipe with a soft cloth, or warm the surface with a hairdryer for a minute or two. It returns if the boots sit unworn — that is normal.
A horsehair brush for dust, then a dry cloth. Aniline leather has no pigment layer to hide behind, so it is worth doing this often and gently rather than rarely and hard.
The PRO specification already carries a high oil and wax content. Add a leather-safe conditioner only when the hide genuinely feels dry — over-conditioning aniline calf darkens it unevenly and permanently.
The extra oil and wax help considerably, but these are not waterproof boots. If they get wet, dry them naturally at room temperature away from direct heat.
