The Story

The Leather That Came Back From the Sea

There is a long-running piece of lore among leatherworkers: hides lost in shipwrecks, sealed under cold water for a century or more, come back with a surface no tannery could plan — irregular grain, uneven depth, a patina already finished before anyone wore it. Those hides are rare enough to be closer to legend than supply. So this leather goes the other way around. Working with an established tannery, the grain is embossed into a 2.2–2.4 mm full-grain cowhide by hand, then sealed under a mist of wax, aiming for the same unevenness on purpose. On an engineer boot with a 27 cm shaft, twin buckles, and a Goodyear welt, it gives you a boot that looks like it has already been somewhere.
