WL-EG13 is built to order in 2.0–2.2 mm French HAAS calfskin. A 28 cm shaft, low 3.5 cm heel, Goodyear welt and Vibram 705 sole create a slimmer profile, while regular EU 35–44 and custom EU 45–47 length sizing extend the available range.

Tanneries HAAS has been tanning calfskin in Alsace since 1842. SUPORTLO® combines vegetable and chrome tannage with a full-aniline surface that keeps the natural pores and grain visible. Goodyear Welt Construction

The upper and welt are attached to the insole structure, and the outsole is stitched to the welt. This allows a qualified cobbler to service or replace worn sole components without rebuilding the upper, provided the welt and upper remain in serviceable condition.

Full-Aniline Calfskin Built for Frequent Wear

The natural grain remains visible because the calfskin is finished without an opaque pigment layer. A higher oil-and-wax content gives the surface greater tonal depth and may produce the pale bloom seen after storage, while the low-profile VIBRAM® TYGUM 705 construction keeps the boot grounded and restrained.

Full Aniline, Grain Left Visible

Without an opaque pigment film, the natural pores, fine grain, and small tonal variations remain visible. The 2.0–2.2 mm weight also gives the 28 cm shaft the substance it needs to maintain its outline.

Higher Oil-and-Wax Content

Compared with standard SUPORTLO®, the PRO specification uses more oil and wax, producing a richer, less formal surface. Tonal variation and occasional surface bloom are expected; use a soft, dry cloth for routine care.

VIBRAM® TYGUM 705 Underfoot

The V-bar rubber half sole covers the forepart while leaving the leather waist exposed. A separate rubber heel keeps the profile lower and more traditional than a one-piece lug sole.

A pale, waxy haze may appear after storage as oils and waxes move toward the surface with changes in temperature and humidity. This surface bloom can be removed with a soft, dry cloth and may return after another period of storage. It is separate from tea-core wear, which develops gradually at flex points and exposed edges. These boots are designed for heritage engineer styling and rugged everyday wear, not as certified protective footwear.

The Story

Why We Cut After You Order, Not Before

Holding stock is easier. You buy leather in bulk, cut the sizes that sell, and ship the same day. The cost is invisible until you wear a 46: the range stops at 44 because the tail sizes do not turn over fast enough to justify the shelf space, and anyone outside the middle of the curve is quietly told to buy something else. Cutting after the order inverts that. It is slower — most pairs take weeks, not days — and it means we sometimes write to check a foot length before anything is committed. In exchange, the size range runs to EU 47, nothing is made that nobody wanted, and a hide as expensive as HAAS calfskin gets cut for a specific person rather than for a forecast.

White Haze Is Bloom, Not Mould

Oils and waxes migrating out of a well-fed hide as temperature and humidity change. Wipe with a soft cloth, or warm the surface with a hairdryer for a minute or two. It returns if the boots sit unworn — that is normal.

Brush, Then Wipe

A horsehair brush for dust, then a dry cloth. Aniline leather has no pigment layer to hide behind, so frequent gentle attention beats occasional hard cleaning.

Condition Rarely

The PRO specification already carries a high oil and wax content. Add a leather-safe conditioner only when the hide genuinely feels dry — over-conditioning aniline calf darkens it unevenly and permanently.

Water-Resistant, Not Waterproof

The extra oil and wax help considerably, but these are not waterproof boots. If they get wet, dry them naturally at room temperature away from direct heat.

Do these boots have E or EE width options?

There is a white haze on my boots. Is something wrong?
No. That is bloom — the natural oils and waxes inside a heavily fatliquored hide migrating to the surface as temperature and humidity change. It is evidence that the leather is well fed, not a defect, and it is not mould. It disappears with regular wear and returns if the boots sit unworn. To clear it quickly, wipe with a soft cloth or warm the surface with a hairdryer for one to two minutes.
What is HAAS SUPORTLO® PRO?
SUPORTLO® is the signature calfskin of Tanneries HAAS in Alsace, France, in production since the 1920s. PRO is the specification we ask HAAS for: a higher oil and wax content for water resistance and easier care, and a tea-core dye in place of the standard through-dye so a lighter core is revealed as the boot wears.
Why does 2.0–2.2 mm matter?
Calfskin is normally finished at 1.0–1.4 mm. At roughly double that thickness the boot distorts less in wear, service life is considerably longer, and the hide is far less prone to loose grain — the wrinkling and separation of the grain layer that thin calfskin develops with age.
How does this differ from your taller engineer boots?
Proportion. This pair is 28 cm in the shaft on a 3.5 cm heel; our tall engineer boots run 29 cm on a 5 cm stacked heel. Same category, different intent — this one is cut to be worn often and to sit quietly under a trouser hem.
What colors are available?
Black, dark brown and light brown. Light brown shows the aniline grain and the tea-core effect most clearly; black is the most versatile; dark brown sits between them.
Can these boots be resoled?
Yes. Goodyear welt construction lets the outsole be removed and replaced without disturbing the upper. On a boot intended for frequent wear this matters more than on an occasional one — the sole will wear out first, and it is the replaceable part.
Can I return a made-to-order pair?
Please try your boots indoors on a clean surface before outdoor wear, and keep the original labels, box and packaging until you are sure the fit works. Because most pairs are custom-made, we would rather resolve sizing by email before production than after delivery — that is the reason we ask.
Are these certified protective motorcycle or safety boots?
